Brussels’ infrastructure is dominated by cars. In comparison to the international tendencies the use of its river is minimal, despite its location nearby and parallel to the other principal infrastructure arteries. The study shows the possibilities of the establishment of multimodal nodes, acting as condensers, allowing an efficient exchange between railway, road, air and water. The river not only has the ability to collect traffic, it also has the power to spatially gather a diversity of urban fragments & programs. It facilitates the coexistence of living, offices and industry. Areas formerly denied from any form of development get new potential because of their close convergence with an international connected system. The infrastructure is the backbone supporting an instable, flexible and dynamic development crossing regional borders, reconnecting the city with its hinterland.
